TWIN OAKS ADVICE COLUMN
You ask, We answer!
You can email us your questions at twinoakskidskorner@gmail.com!
Dear Kids Korner,
When someone in my group is mean to me, what should I do?
Great question! We suggest you use words to tell them to stop what they are doing and if that doesn't work, then speak to your counselor.
Dear Kids Korner,
How do you find the perfect color to paint a bedroom?
Interesting..... just ask them what their favorite color is!
Dear Kids Korner,
What should I do if I don't want to wear my Twin Oaks shirt every day?
Even though we think that the Twin Oaks shirts are rocking cool, we can certainly understand how one might get tired of wearing the same one day after day. What we suggest is that you decorate your shirts to add some variety or try tie-dying it. And if even then you want variety, try this: get any old shirt and a Sharpie marker or a fabric marker and write Twin Oaks on it! That makes it a Twin Oaks shirt! But make sure you ask your parents first! A last suggestion.... wear your shirt backwards one day so it just looks like a different shirt. Have FUN!
Dear Kids Korner,
What should I do if I lose something at camp?
This is such important information so we are glad you asked! There is supposed to be a blue milk crate on the front deck for Lost and Found items but as of this writing, we have not had any lost items except for ONE hat, which is still lost! But if you lose something, make sure to see Little Miss Pattie or Miss Pat and see if anyone turned anything into the office.
Dear Kids Korner,
I love doing art but I never know what to draw! How can I change this?
Well, we know that sometimes it is hard to come up with ideas but once you sit down, try these tips: Look around and see what looks pretty or interesting and try drawing that. Or you can draw shapes and lines until something pops into your head. Our last suggestion is simply to draw your favorite things and see if that sparks anything for you. Good luck!
Dear Kids Korner,
What do you do if you lose all your clothes after swim?
We suggest you grab a towel and wrap yourself in it while you go to your cabin and find your spare set of clothes! Then you will be dressed and able to search for your original clothes!
Dear Kids Korner,
What jewelry projects can we suggest to do that have never been done before?
Well, our team of experts think making earrings for the girls might be a good idea!
Dear Kids Korner,
How long does it take to do interviews for Kids Korner?
Wowee! What a great question! Our interviews can last from 1 - 5 minutes depending on how long our questions and your answers are plus how long it takes us to write down what you say!
Dear Kids Korner,
Will we ever get the original pizza back for lunch?
We asked Miss Beverly and Miss Barbara this question directly and they asked the kids of Kids Korner to survey the campers as to which they'd prefer.
Dear Kids Korner,
What should I do if I get into a fight with a friend and the counselor doesn't do anything?
We think you should go and talk to the counselor and ask them to help you come up with a solution and then go and try to talk to your friend.
Dear Kids Korner,
Why isn't there any sand on the playgrounds?
There is one sand playground and it is by the kiddie pool. We think that keeping sand off some playgrounds is good because it lets you play and run easier.
Dear Kids Korner,
Is it possible to have a different hot lunch besides the usual stuff? And if it could be done, what would it be?
Great question! We like this idea and will ask Miss Beverly but in the meantime, we came up with a few suggestions: french fries, triple chocolate cake, macaroni & cheese, hot dogs, chicken drumsticks, and cheeseburgers!
Dear Kids Korner,
Can someone man the front gate from 4:00 - 5:00 each day so visitors can come in and exit easily?
The front office is in charge of buzzing in visitors and letting people out after 4 pm. There is a doorbell-like buzzer outside the front gate to alert the office that someone wants to come in.
Dear Kids Korner,
Would it be possible to play music throughout the day so all can hear?
We all thought that this is a great idea but then we thought that it might take away from some of the other fun things that are going on all day. Plus, this might make it hard for the kids to hear the counselors or the lifeguards or eachother!
Dear Kids Korner,
What happened to the train?
Well, the trains broke and the company did not come to Twin Oaks to fix them.
Email your questions to TWINOAKSKIDSKORNER@GMAIL.COM

BETCHA’ DIDN’T KNOW……………
Betcha' didn’t know why this camp is called Twin Oaks! Well, we
asked Miss Pat in the Front Office and she told us that there are
two trees at the front entrance that are joined at the base and
they are called twin oaks!
Thanks for the contribution, Miss Pat!
Betcha' didn't know that there is a PIANO buried underground by
the old music room! It was too big to fit through the doors so they
dug a hole and buried it! It is now covered in blacktop
asphalt!
Thanks for the contribution, Hal!
Betcha' didn't know that Twin Oaks used to have a hen house on the campgrounds! According to Jenni Davis, the chickens used to escape and the neighbors would call to complain. One chicken chased Jenni down and started pecking on her leg! She started screaming, "The chicken is attacking me. The chicken is attacking me!" She has a faded scar TO THIS DAY!
Thanks for that contribution, Jenni!
Betcha' didn't know that Hal buys 75 DOZEN fresh, new towels each summer season! That's 900 towels! And we had a question from a website visitor asking, "How many towels get washed each day?" Our team of investigative reporters found out! Betcha' didn't know that the pool area washes about 2500 towels a week, so about 500 each day! And betcha' didn't know that Twin Oaks uses Tide Powder for detergent!
Thanks for that contribution, Hal and Chris the lifeguard!
Betcha' didn't know that when Arlo Guthrie was 15 years old, he applied to work at Twin Oaks (his mother knew the Mrs. Lewis, the dance teacher) but he was told he was too young and was turned away.
Thanks for that contribution, Hal.
Betcha' didn't know that Ali Lohan and Dakota Lohan (Lindsay's siblings) used to come to Twin Oaks! (OK, maybe you DID know that one!)
Betcha' didn't know that Mr. Hal was once a head counselor!
Betcha' didn't know that the Arts & Crafts building was once nothing more than a screened in porch! And before that it was a greenhouse where they grew plants!
Betcha' didn't know these things about the Nurse's Office! The Nurse's Office used to be just a tiny room. Now it is a whole cabin! There is a M*A*S*H t-shirt hanging on the wall that was donated by a Twin Oaks staffer after she saw how hard the nurses work! And according to Nurse Laura and Nurse Robin, there were NEVER any chickens treated at the nurses office!
Betcha' didn't know that Miss Barbara and Miss Beverly were both teachers here many years ago!
Betcha' didn't know that the area that is now used for GaGa used to be Bumper Boats and the zipline used to be plain old rings! Also, Yoga and Gymnastics used to be where the Game Room is!
Betcha' didn't know that Miss Jenni met her husband (Sydney's and Charli's, and Mac-n-cheese's mom and dad) right here when they were both teenagers! They were both counselors and Miss Barbara tried to fix them up!
Betcha' didn't know that the lunch tent area was once used as a roller rink and that the lunch room was where Yoga and Dance are now!
Betcha' didn't know that there used to be a giant treehouse where playground 1 now stands.
Betcha' didn't know that Gemini is 27 years old and was started because Jenni wanted to travel every day to a new destination!
Betcha' didn't know that many years ago, Gina and Matt Pulewitz met right here! Matt was a lifeguard and Gina was a counselor. Was it love at first sight? They now have 2 daughters that go here!
Betcha' didn't know that Twin Oaks used to use real silverware for the campers instead of plastic!

RANDOM FACTS
Did you know that when you do BEADING in Arts & Crafts, each craft gets more difficult according to age groups? Rhonda, the BEADING QUEEN, told us that the youngest campers do some simple bead projects but that the senior campers do much more challenging things. And the Club Beaders really do cool stuff!
We had a question on our website that we researched. We were asked how many logos has Twin Oaks had? Our team of reporters asked Mr. Hal and he told us that there have been only 4 actual logos but there have been over 20 different designs on t-shirts (late nights, spirit shirts, etc). COOL!
